Construction on Woods Memorial Bridge Starts Feb 1

Beginning on Monday, Feb. 1, at 10 p.m. traffic on Route 16 Eastbound will be reduced from three to two lanes from Wellington Circle to the Woods Memorial River Bridge over the Malden River.

The new lane configuration is expected to last two years.

Judlau-White J.V. LLC will be installing a temporary barrier in order to reconstruct the bridge over the MBTA’s Orange Line and Commuter Rail. Three lanes of traffic will be maintained in the Westbound direction.

This traffic pattern will shift during the various stages of construction. However, lane usage will remain as two lanes eastbound, three lanes westbound for approximately two years.

Additional temporary lane closures deemed necessary will be performed at night between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Appropriate signs, channelizing devices and traffic control measures will be used to guide drivers through the restricted area.

MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes, if possible, to avoid delays. Drivers that must travel through the affected area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
