City Welcomes New Transportation Planner/Engineer

Mayor Carlo DeMaria is pleased to announce the addition of Jay Monty to the Department of Planning and Development as the new Transportation Planner/ Engineer for the City.

Monty joins the City with over 9 years experience in planning, engineering, and transportation.  He most recently worked for Volpe National Transportation Center, holding the title of Transportation Planner/ Analyst. Monty has extensive background in analysis and design software as well as qualitative and quantitative research and analytical and technical writing.

Monty is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he secured a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Masters of Arts in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University.  In his former position, Monty developed a transportation access plan for the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge, as well as implementing plans for FHWA’s strategic highway research program.

Monty is excited about the opportunity to work in the Planning and Development Department and to enhance the viability of the community as a desirable place in which to live, travel and work through sound urban planning practices

Monty, a native of Boxford, currently lives in Somerville.
