City Holds Special Meeting to Authorize Casino Vote

After a recent ruling by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission adopting emergency regulations to allow cities and towns to determine when to hold referenda, Mayor Carlo DeMaria called special meetings of both the Common Council and the Board of Aldermen this past Tuesday, April 23 to request their authorization to schedule a referendum regarding the proposed Wynn Development. The regulation, which was adopted at Mayor DeMaria’s request, allows municipalities to hold elections within their borders to determine a city or town’s sentiment on a proposed gaming facility prior to the acceptance of a “Phase 1” application.

In light of this new development and new information regarding the host community agreement, Mayor Carlo DeMaria would like to invite residents to the next community meeting being held this Thursday, April 25, at 7:00 p.m. in the Connolly Center.   All residents are encouraged to attend as the City continues the cooperative decision-making process.
