The preliminaries are over. The main event is set to begin.
The Everett High football team was set to begin defense of its Division 1A Super Bowl championship Tuesday night against Masconomet Regional at Fraser Field in Lynn.
Coach John DiBiaso’s Everett contingent enters the playoffs as the champion of the Greater Boston League with a 9-1 record. Masconomet is the champion of the Cape Ann/Northeastern Conference Tier 1 with an 8-2 record.
The winner of Tuesday’s semifinal will play the winner of the Lincoln Sudbury-Barnstable game in the Super Bowl Saturday at Gillette Stadium.
Senior John Montelus was featured in a story on the front page of the Boston Globe sports section Tuesday. Montelus, who will attend Notre Dame next year, is referred to as “Mount Everett” in the story, which is a play on words (Mount Everest, located on the border of Nepal and Tibet, China is the tallest mountain in the world with its peak at more than 29,000 feet).
