Boys Track Team Defeats Medford

The Everett High boys track team earned a split in its recent tri-meet with Medford and Cambridge, defeating the former, 95-32, and falling to the latter, 89-47.

Among the top individual performers for Everett who won their events against the entire field were: Dexter Dowe, who was a double victor in two events against both rivals, the shotput with a heave of 46-3 and the discus with a toss of 121-0; Ricardo Perez, who topped the field in the mile in a time of 5:26.6; Dan Plunkett in the javelin with a throw of 112-2; and Peter Duperier in the 200 dash in 23.8.

Duperier led a sweep in the 200 against both Cambridge and Medford, with Jonathan Mendez taking second in 24.3 and Dom Mucci grabbing third in 24.8.

Pierry Etienne was the other first place finisher for Everett against Cambridge in the 400 dash in 56.9. In the competition against Medford, Chavannes Valbrune brought home first places in the 400 hurdles in 60.2, the 800 in 2:29.8, and the high jump with a leap of 5-4; Andres Tejada won the 100 dash in 12.2; and Dom Mucci tripled jumped past his Medford counterparts with a landing of 35-11.

Other points scorers on the day for the Everett boys with second or third place efforts were: Perez in the 100 high hurdles in 20.6; Francisco Guzman in the 100 hurdles in 21.4; Brian Panarese in the 100 dash in 12.4; Chris Santana in the 100 dash in 12.5; Max Alphonse with a shotput throw of 33-9; Plunkett with a shotput toss of 32-1; Guzman with a javelin throw of 11-5; Steven Ho with a javelin throw of 107; Trevor Freeman in the mile in 6:26.3; Alex Repucci in the 400 dash in 57.6; and Giuseppe Matarazzo in the two mile in 14:19 and the discus with a throw of 95-6.

EHS head coach Shelanda Irish noted that some of her charges already have qualified for the State Divisional Meet on May 28. Duperier will run in both the 200 and 400 meter dashes and Dowe will compete in the shotput. David Lima is just shy of making the grade  in the 800, as are the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relay teams. They will have a chance to qualify tomorrow (Thursday) at the All GBL Meet.
