Spring Training in Fla. for EHS Softball Team

The Everett High softball team enjoyed a productive pre-season, spring training trek to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Although the weather was a bit uncooperative with some rain, the Everett girls nonetheless played a doubleheader against Wasau West, Wisconsin and  Piqua, Ohio.

“The girls raised funds from local businesses, family and friends to attend this wonderful experience,” said EHS head coach Stacy Poste. “This was a first time event for our program and we are grateful to the Superintendent and the School Committee, who granted us permission to participate because of the cold weather here.

“Although we lost both games, which will count on our overall record, we were able to bond as a team along with the parents that helped chaperone,” added Poste. “I believe these stronger friendships will help us succeed in our upcoming season.”

Returning members of the Lady Crimson Tide this season are: seniors Michelle Zullo (pitcher), Rachel Pierce (catcher), and Nicole Flores (3B/DH); juniors Brianna Uga (LF), Erin McLaughlin (RF), Tori Cyrus (3B), and Taylor Sweeney (SS); sophomores Janyne Sierra (CF) and Alea Martinelli (1B). Soph Francesca Perreault (2B) is out for season with an injury.

Poste also called up seniors Rebecca Burley (pitcher) and Laura LaForest (OF) and junior Kayla Lombardo (catcher) to complete her 2011 squad.
