School Committee to Meet January 3rd; To Elect Carreiro Their New Chairman

School Committeman Robert Carreiro is scheduled to become the next Chairman of the Everett School Committee, according to outgoing Chairman Richard Baniewicz, whom he will succeed.

Early caucausing among the membership assures his election.

Carreiro has served on the School Committee since 2005.

He has served as vice-chairman for the past two years.

A resident of Clark Street, Carreiro brings strong credentials to the chairmanship.

He was a teacher in the Everett Schools for 17 years.

He was president of the Everett Teachers Association for seven years.

He also serves as the Chairman of the Everett Housing Authority, which dovetails with his daytime job as an employee of the Department of Housing and Community Development.

The Everett School Committee will meet, as scheduled, Monday evening, January 3, at 6:30 p.m. for organizational purposes and will elect the chairman and the vice- chairman.

After Carreiro is elected and takes his place as chairman, he will establish the members of the various Subcommittees.

It is expected that School Committeeman Lester MacLaughlin will chair the meeting as tradition requires as he is the senior member.

He will then accept nominations for Chairman.

Following Carreiro’s expected election, McLaughlin will then hear nominations for Vice-Chairman, a position expected to go to School Committeeman Allen Panarese.
