EHS track teams compete in GBL frosh-soph meet

Freshmen and sophomores of the Everett High boys and girls indoor track teams competed in the recent Greater Boston League Freshman/Sophomore Meet.

The highlight of the meet for Coach Shelanda Irish’s teams was the victory in the 300 yard dash by Katie Steeves. Kate flew to victory in a time of 43.9, edging out her nearest competitor by just .1 of a second.

Vanessa Tejada grabbed third place in the 1000 yard run in 3:37.6, while Randi Doherty placed fourth in the 50 yard hurdles in 10.3.

Holly Goodreau took 15th in the shotput with a throw of 16-6.5, with teammates Courtney Cowan (15-7) and Babhinn Kernan (14-7) also competing in that event. Jessica Mangan placed seventh in the mile in 6:48.

The 4 x 400 relay quartet of Naeva Richmond, Tejada, Shalanda Duperrier, and Kiara Alston placed fourth in a time of 5:38.1.

On the boys’ side, Ricardo Perez was the top finisher for the boys with a third place effort in the shotput with a heave of 29-7.5. Ricardo also placed fifth in the two mile in 12:27.6.

Jose Rozo Cortez placed fourth in the 50 hurdles in 9.4; Joseph Owuor took fifth in the hurdles in 10.1; Kenny Phan ran the 300 dash in 41.3; Widdler Faustin completed the same event in 41.6; and the 4 x 400 relay team of Mohammed Fdal, Owuor, Phan, and Aster Jorgo finished fourth in 5:38.1.
